Heritage Skills Trailblazer Programme

It’s been an action-packed couple of weeks on our Heritage Skills Trailblazer Programme!

Our temporary workshop at the fascinating Herbert House, generously provided by York Conservation Trust, has been buzzing with activity as more than 30 students from a range of ages, backgrounds and experience levels come together to learn valuable heritage skills.

Under the expert guidance of our skilled joiners and masons, participants have been getting hands-on experience in:

✅ Traditional joinery
✅ Timber window repairs
✅ Lime mortar work

These practical skills are crucial to maintaining and protecting our historic buildings for future generations.

The programme is about more than learning a trade. It’s about creating real pathways into employment while helping to safeguard our built heritage by equipping the next generation with the specialist skills our sector needs.
