Rievaulx Abbey – Tannery Vats

We’re delighted to be carrying out conservation works at Rievaulx Abbey for English Heritage, protecting and stabilising Tannery Vats 1, 2 and 3. Two temporary marquees will span over the vats, keeping the structures dry and safeguarded throughout the programme.

Works will include:

•           Careful dismantling of collapsed walls

•           Salvaging and reusing historic tiles

•           Rebuilding with traditional materials

•           Repointing, grouting and stabilising bulged areas

•           New small retaining buttresses

All works are being delivered using traditional techniques, with full protection of the surrounding historic fabric.
