Restoration Works Underway at Lincoln Cathedral’s Wren Library

We’re pleased to announce that work has now commenced at Lincoln Cathedral within the Wren Library. Our team is undertaking essential restoration and modernisation efforts to enhance both functionality and sustainability while preserving historical integrity.

Key updates include:

  • Restoration of ceilings – Removing defective plaster and cement render, followed by the installation of a breathable, energy-efficient three-coat lime system with new insulation for improved aesthetics and sustainability.
  • Modern climate control – Installing new fan coil units (FCUs) and dehumidifiers in the Wren and Medieval Libraries to ensure optimal preservation conditions.
  • Upgraded lighting & electricals – Removing outdated systems and introducing modern lighting solutions across the Wren Library, Medieval Library, and North Cloister.
  • Fire safety enhancements – Installing fire detectors within the roof void to bolster safety measures.
  • Connectivity improvements – Bringing Wi-Fi to the space to support accessibility and modern usage.
  • AV & hearing loop installation –state-of-the-art audiovisual systems.

These updates mark an exciting phase in the preservation and enhancement of Lincoln Cathedral, balancing heritage conservation with modern accessibility.
